What's it about?
Christmas chaos is over at the Emerson’s house, but the real holiday fun is just beginning. Jim presents Cora with a big beautiful gift box she is forbidden to open.
What’s in the crimson mystery box?
Cora finds out, slowly, over a twenty-four-hour period. The box contains tantalizing toys, temptation, tricky games and an invitation to an erotic adventure at a mountain lodge that will refresh their marriage and bond them as lovers. If Cora can endure one hellaciously prolonged tease, she’s really going to enjoy getting a nice package.
Now you need a nibble? (Copyright 2020, Katalina Leon)

While all of that is entertaining, what I find most enjoyable is the first kiss, especially if there’s been a bit of anguish before it occurred. You know what I mean. The hero or heroine doesn’t want to get involved because they’ve been hurt by a rejection, they fear loss, or they’re messed up by whatever plot device a writer can come up with.
While their hearts ache, they still yearn. They want what we all do. Someone to cherish us. Someone to care.
That’s the feeling I sought to explore in Sensual Stranger, my newest erotic romance. Zach’s heart is still on the mend from a tragic loss. Toni’s always been alone. They want each other, but circumstances warn against it.
That’s what makes their first kiss so special to me. Here’s the blurb and an excerpt to show you what I mean:
Into his life she came—wanting…willing…wanton
It’s no ordinary morning when Toni Starr arrives at Zach’s garage. Flat broke, with a past she won’t share, Toni’s instantly taken by such a potently virile man. Direct and unashamed, she tells him she’s a motorcycle performance artist who needs work and knows motors.
Zach knows women, and Toni’s unlike any he’s met. Lushly sensuous, exceedingly assured, she’d easily be his match in business and bed. A provocative challenge that stirs him as nothing has since losing his wife. A chance he’s reluctant to take, offering no more than a month’s employment, then she’ll have to be on her way.
The hours tick by. Each word and glance intensifies their denied yet escalating desire, forcing them to surrender to passion and Toni’s need for Zach’s dominance. Driven by carnal hunger, conquered by yearning, they face the unforeseen truth of Toni’s past and a future neither of them expected.
(Prior to this scene, Zach has offered Toni a place to stay at his house, knowing she has nowhere else to go.)
Arm draped over his forehead, fist clenched, Zach regarded the fading shadows on the master bedroom’s ceiling, then chanced a look at the clock.
A muttered oath escaped his lips. Only ten minutes to go before the alarm went off and he’d barely slept.
Each time he’d managed to drift off, he’d awakened in a start from dreams he couldn’t recall. Tension knotted the muscles in his neck and shoulders. He couldn’t relax his arms or legs. An hour ago, he’d finally given in and stroked his rigid cock, masturbating like an out-of-control teen, releasing his cum on the sheet rather than in a warm, soft female body.
Uh-uh. No fucking way. Even if she did stir him as few females had, she was a complication he just didn’t need.
Rolling over, Zach punched his pillow and buried his head in it. Instantly, his knee and leg hurt. He adjusted his weight and squeezed his lids tight.
Images of Toni arrived without pause, snatching his breath, overwhelming his resistance. He saw the ends of her hair swinging against her smooth cheeks, her plump lower lip shiny from the steak’s juices, her eyes searching his, her expression guileless, wanting, receptive.
He could have taken her on the picnic table and he knew she wouldn’t have protested. Hell, she probably would have encouraged it and more…a lot more. Anything he wanted, no matter how crazy or lewd.
Like tying her wrists to the bed and playing pirate or whatever the hell women fantasized about. Having her willingly submit to his dominance and beg for still more. Playing those games in fun and for mutual pleasure.
Unlike Meg, Toni hadn’t been sheltered. She seemed to expect such behavior from a man, practically encouraging it from him. And yet, despite her gutsy personality and the brave front she kept putting on, she had a world weariness about her, a forlornness that kept pulling him near. Telling him he could ease whatever hurt she’d once known. They could comfort each other.
Until she left, and she would. She had Lucky and Belle to support.
Who in the fuck were they? Where in the hell had she met the couple? What did it mean that she’d adopted them, rather than they’d done so with her?
At dinner last night, after she’d kept dodging his questions about her past, Zach had finally surrendered, asking her about Lucky and Belle’s. Toni’s answer was to tell him about their shop, how excited they were to have it up and running. It had always been their dream.
While they’d done what exactly? What were their previous jobs?
He hadn’t asked. Instead, he’d listened as she’d recounted how Lucky taught her to repair vehicles. Her love for the man and Belle transformed and relaxed her, allowing Toni to smile freely, laugh recklessly, turning her into one of the most interesting and surely most desirable women Zach had ever known.
And he didn’t know her at all.
Sighing deeply, he pushed up on his elbow and looked at the clock.
Shit. Five more minutes and his day would begin. A day filled with Toni easing his emptiness over losing Meg, crowding out his memories of her.
Unsettled, Zach rolled off the bed and yanked on his jeans. T-shirt in hand, he left his bedroom to go downstairs and start the coffee.
He got as far as the hall bath.
His steps paused and his heart lurched as the door clicked, then swung inward unexpectedly. Plumes of steam drifted out.
Unaware of him, Toni looked behind herself at something in the bath. Her skin, more pink now than ivory, glowed from her shower and smelled of soap rather than lavender cologne. Her stretchy blue camisole and plaid boxer shorts clung to her damp flesh.
Zach’s heart beat violently. His limbs went limp. The tee slipped from his hand.
He told himself to pick it up and keep moving before she saw him, to go downstairs.
His legs refused to move.
A bead of moisture freed itself from her freshly washed hair, rolling down her temple to her cheek. Her camisole’s thin satin strap fell over her shoulder.
Ignoring it, Toni lifted a hairbrush to the side of her head, turned and froze as their eyes met.
Her gaze slipped down his naked chest, pausing at his fly, lingering on his erection. Desire quickly replaced her surprise. Her lips parted. A gentle breath spilled out. Her eyes darted back to his.
In a rush of movement, Zach slipped his fingers around the back of her neck, using his body to push hers into the door.
The wood smacked against the doorstop, then vibrated, matching the sounds of his sprinting heart.
Toni dropped her brush. It made brief taps as it bounced across the hardwood floor.
Her skin was so ungodly hot, a pleased groan tore from deep within Zach’s throat. Head lowered to hers, he captured her mouth and drove his tongue inside, filling her as much as he could, his kiss savage, uncivilized, punishing…for making him wait, for making him want.

He crossed his arms. He was to be a debaucher. Hunh. And divorced! He had never thought of himself as that, either. What an extraordinary evening. A proposal of marriage. An indecent offer to wed and bed a woman whom he had never met. Plus the knowledge that, if he accepted this bizarre bargain, he would be married, divorced and well paid for it all within three months’ time.
He turned his face toward her. Lovely, she was, though she did not wear her success here with any hauteur. She had a humility to her demeanor that intrigued him for its novelty. That it also astonished him was unique. So much so that he admitted to himself he wanted to please her and pet her. That desire doubled as he discerned that her recent circumstances had worn her down to skin and bones, coupled with desperation that had brought her to him and to this pass. Marrying him could not only change her life immeasurably, but change her attitude, her health and her financial position.
But what would marrying her do to him?
Make him more of a rogue in the eyes of the ton?
He ran a finger over the seam of his lips. Did it matter if that were so?
He had no woman he wished to take to wife. He had, at the moment, no lover, either. No plans for the next three months. Not if one counted an invitation to Adam’s and Felice’s supper parties once a month. Or his annual business meeting with his father in late March in the family seat in the Cotswolds. Surely, White’s and gambling did not figure prominently in any intelligent man’s engagement book. However, the compassion, the sympathy he felt for her, coupled with his extreme dislike of her stepfather and Trayne, propelled him to accept this final stipulation from her. At his fine ripe age of thirty-five, he had no other pressing objections to such an insane proposition as marrying for three months. This indeed meant he was rather louche, didn’t it? Without purpose, plight or grand passion, he had no reason to deny her what she wished. Him. His name and his protection. For three months.
What harm could that cause, when the damage done to her was a thousand-fold more brutal than any divorce might bring her?
He would live. Once the ton heard the true tale as they would, years from now, he might even be redeemed. He scoffed at the very notion. Redemption had never been a need of his. It was not now, either. If he did this, it was to help her, not raise up his own reputation in the eyes of others.
She watched him like a bird of prey, sharp-eyed and wily as a starving child seeking succor.
Rawley pulled up to Jack’s front door. The coach rolled to a stop while the horses stamped and snorted. The rain drummed a fierce tattoo on the roof.
Jack took Emma’s hand. “Come. We must get you out of those clothes.”
She bristled. “We must not—not until we’re married.”
He shook his head. Yes, his reputation certainly was an outrage if the woman who had just proposed marriage to him might think him plotting to take her to him before the ceremony. “Miss Darling. I wish to have my housekeeper find you dry clothes, not remove yours from you.”
He felt the tension drain from her body. “Thank you. I am grateful.”
“Thank me in three months’ time.”

One Tough Hombre (Tough Texas Hombres) by Cerise DeLand

Texas Ranger Dane Masters wants a piece of luscious bakery shop owner Kandy Brunner, but will his desire for sweet Kandy kill this tough hombre?
Texas Ranger Dane Masters is one tough hombre with a hankering to sample the town’s luscious bakery shop owner. Problem is, Kandy Brunner doesn’t have affairs. She only chooses wisely, then weds. But her three husbands have died soon after marrying her.
So when Dane gets a hot taste of her spicy body one morning in her shop, he asks himself how far will he go to get her in his bed—and how long will she stay when he shows her his need for more than plain vanilla lovin’?
Kandy Wilcox Dayton Harris Brunner as her name implies has been married three times. When she falls in love she requires a marriage license to fully commit sexually to a man. But can Texas Ranger, Dane Masters become the exception?
This is a short read and hang on to your cowboy hats because it will get you hot under the collar. Kandy and Dane have known one another for years and it seems the sexual tension that's been brewing is about to be unleashed. All the sex scenes and there are many, are smoldering hot, some might not be for everyone (anal play/sex). However, these are great, fun characters, well developed with natural sounding dialogue and a plot that was carefully paced for such a short read.
If you're looking for a story you can read in less than an hour and you love smoldering hot love scenes (especially those that include a sexy Texas lawman) and the essential happy ending, this is worth checking out.

Delighted to run part of the dynamite review of HARD DRIVIN' MAN from Whipped Cream yesterday!
"When I read the blurb for Hard Drivin’ Man I was totally drawn in. Jessie Hardwick grew up and quickly married the man she thought was her prince charming. Life has a way of turning a stud into a dud and a play mate into the perfect mate. No, this isn’t a paranormal tale where two fated lovers find and connect for their happily ever after. This is the story of two very real characters that deal with heartache and loss to find the love they never thought possible.
"Don’t pull out the tissue just yet, though. Ms. DeLand doesn’t put the reader through all the grief that Jessie and Trey endure but you empathize with them nonetheless when they open up to one another. There is a lot of heart and emotion in this little short story. You start the journey with Jessie and then are allowed to glimpse the need that Trey has to show Jessie how much he loves her. It was a total AHHHH moment. There is also some great dialogue about “plowing fields” and “zucchini”. You won’t want to miss it!!"I was really impressed by how much story there really was packed into fifty-one pages. Ms. DeLand has a true talent for creating and telling a fictional story but giving it life outside the pages. I hurt for both Jessie and Trey and rejoiced when they were able to overcome the past to allow for a future. I highly recommend Hard Drivin’ Man for anyone that dreams of the “what ifs” and then gives fate a free hand."

Sex and Fantasy
Sex and fantasy have always gone together but today’s erotic romance authors sometimes take it a step further: deep into the realm of the ancient fairytale. They go where the prowess of an elfin warrior goes far beyond his ability with a bow and arrow, firing straight into the heart—and other parts—of his lady love. They go where a princess uses more than her heart of gold to tempt her prince.
But do grown women truly enjoy that kind of story? Do they really want to think about Cinderella and her prince ‘getting it on’ under the sheets? Do they want to read about a man whose manhood is restored when he’s possessed by an ancient Welsh warrior?
Absolutely! Especially when such explicit stories maintain their one absolutely essential element: love. Erotic romances are written as something more than simple sex tales. They are stories of love and romance, served with an extra-large helping of explicit detail. They have a happily-ever-after, whether the lovers come from the same species or not.
I present for Exhibit A my own recent erotic fantasy romance Wood-Lovin’ Nymph. This short book brings a fairytale being to life in modern day Central Park. While New York City is generally known for its let’s-get-down-to-business attitude, there’s always been a spark of magic in the metropolis as well. Readers will discover that spark when they meet Arianna, a wood nymph who wants to live up to her species’ reputation as sexual beings, but she wants to make love with only one man. That man is NYPD Detective Rick Ballentine, a down-to-earth guy who would never believe in fairies. Not, that is, until he sees one in the flesh.
And I mean ‘in the flesh’ in the purest sense of the phrase. Once Arianna gets her man inside her oak tree, clothing vanishes and lust is indulged on both sides. Here’s a short excerpt to illustrate what I mean. Warning: the following scene is not quite X-rated, but it’s much hotter than an R.

“Kiss me,” she whispered and captured his face between her hands. Willingly, he shifted his hungry mouth to hers. Her appetite matched his as she nibbled and lapped at his lips and teeth and tongue. He gave back, aware of every inch of her nakedness against him. Suddenly his clothes were strangling him. He wanted to be naked, too. He wanted to feel her warm flesh against his. He wanted to tangle his bare legs with hers and press himself into her.
Almost as soon as the thought entered his mind, his clothing vanished. Surprised and delighted, he lifted his mouth from hers.
“Did you just read my mind?” he asked, gazing down at her.
“I read your body,” she answered with a husky voice. Her eyes glittered like gold dust. “You seemed to be having trouble catching your breath so I thought your clothes were constricting you.”
He smiled. “I like that you can read my body.”
“Please read mine,” she said. “With your hands.”
Rick straddled her upper thighs and sat up. He gazed down at the feast spread before him and need surged into his cock.
“I’ll start here,” he said, reaching out to brush one thumb across her lower lip. Ariana responded by nipping at his thumb with her perfect little teeth.
“Your other hand is supposed to be reading, too,” she said with a wicked grin.
“You’re right. Can’t let it get lazy now, can we?” Rick placed his other hand on the pulse point on one side of her neck. Slowly he traced his fingertips toward her collarbone. His other hand matched his movements on her other side as he finger-read her upper chest to her shoulders.
“Mmm,” she moaned. “That feels good.”
“How about this?” He continued to stroke down the outside of her arms to her elbows. He watched her flesh prickle up along the trail of his fingers then he caressed a path down to her wrists. Her hands, lying on the bed, opened, her fingers unfurling like the petals of a flower. He continued the gentle tickling to the center of her palms and then stroked upward along the inner flesh of her arms. The flesh of her breasts prickled, too, and her nipples hardened even more. The sight made his mouth water as she closed her eyes and arched toward him.
A large portion of the rest of the book carries their relationship much farther, and details it every step of the way. That’s what makes it an erotic romance. It allows the characters—and readers—to explore a romantic sexual fantasy in story form. It’s a ‘quickie’ between the pages of a book, whether that book is digital or paper. It’s harmless fun that often encourages women—and even men—to stretch their own romantic fantasy wings. It’s fun, it’s safe, and it’s healthy. And it’s waiting for you inside a story.

“I don’t do things like this.” She knew she repeated herself but she had to emphasize it especially when she now knew she planned to spend all night with him in her bed. Him deep inside her, deeper than he had been. Going deeper still, far up into her heart. And that last was her greatest fear. Her unique adventure.
He waited, a mellow smile broadening his handsome lips.
“I don’t invite men here to make love to me,” she told him with a serenity that came with knowing she was about to strip naked and enjoy this man as she had no other. “I don’t invite staff to make love to me.”
He stood, a statue, listening, watching, waiting to give her all the time she needed to reveal her trepidations. “And?”
“I don’t make love with men who have reputations to make.”
She nodded, as he wrestled for a fleeting moment with an expression of insult that had crossed his face. But then she said, “I don’t make love mindlessly.”
His mouth softened as he whispered, “Like you did with me?”
Once more, she nodded, and boldly stated, “I don’t make love often.”
He smiled, a sweet parting of his manly mouth, a tender caress of his gaze over her body. “Like you will with me?”
“Yes,” she breathed. “Oh, yes.”
“Well, then,” he came away from the wall, taking small sure steps toward her as he spoke. “You need to hear that I don’t make love to my bosses.”
She snorted, pleased, thrilled that he realized what she needed here was some reciprocity to put them on sound footing. “Your resumé says you’ve had only four.”
He nodded. “The first two were men.” He winked. “Not my style.”
She grinned now.
He took another step toward her. “The next two were women. Not my type.”
She beamed at him.
Another step had him taking her hands in his. “I don’t make love to women I don’t care about.”
She inhaled sharply.
He raised her hands to kiss each of her fingertips in turn. “I’ve outgrown the one-night stands, Maddie. The quick lays that leave you feeling like a cave man.” He pressed both her palms to his cheeks and his torso to hers. “I want a relationship that means something bigger. With one woman. With brains.” He smoothed her hair. “And beauty.” He kissed her eyelids. “And a body.” He cupped her ass and pushed her groin to his. “And a passion for me.”
She wound her arms around his massive shoulders and pressed her breasts against his solid chest. “I think you’ve got her.”
