One of our readers asked this morning to provide clarity on the price of a chip hat during Regency period.

The pricing is for a hat made in approximately 1817.
Chip could be plaited or woven just like straw but was sturdier, less
flexible. Once formed into a sort of basket in whatever shape was
currently fashionable, it could be bleached or colored, then trimmed as desired.
